The Next Resource of the Month from Pastor Tom Hansen

How to Find Contentment
The Resource of the Month

The Resource of the Month

Hello Grace Family! It's time for our next Resource of the Month. It's a 31-day devotional book by Megan Hill called Contentment: Seeing God's Goodness.

Contentment by Megan Hill

Contentment by Megan Hill

Do you struggle to be content?

Does dissatisfaction mark your mood, color your conversation, or dampen your devotions?

This book can help.

P&R Publishing said: "Discontent easily arises when our desires aren’t met and our plans don’t come true—but this is a dangerous path that drives us away from God. While the world insists that satisfying our desires is the path to fulfillment, this daily devotional teaches us the value of seeking contentment instead, providing practical approaches to cultivating thankfulness in specific life circumstances that make discontent easy."

Yes.

I need more of this. I'm guessing you do, too.

In just the first few pages, this book touched my heart. Even before beginning the first day's devotion, Megan Hill qutoes the Puritan Pastor, Jeremiah Burroughs on contentment. He said:

"Christian contement is that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit, which freely submits to and delights in God's wise and fatherly disposal in every condition."

Yes!

I need more of this. And I'm guessing you do, too.

Of course, Megan Hill does more than quote Puritans. She does a superb job mining the scriptures for key teachings on the subject of contentment, and delivering them in a short, easy-to-use format that can be seamlessly added to your daily devotions. I have really enjoyed including this book in my daily rhythms.

It's also great to know that Megan Hill is a real person. Some of you may recognize her name. She was the speaker at our Women's Retreat at Camp Spofford a few years ago. She is a working mom and pastor's wife in Massachusetts, and now she is a managing editor for The Gospel Coalition. Her real life experience and godly wisdom make this book exceedingly practical for everday life.

So, would you like to be more content?

First, pray.

Second, spend time in the Word. Let me suggest Philippians 4:10–13 to start.

Then, give this book a try.

You'll find a samply copy on our Resource Wall in the Foyer at Grace. I also have two copies to give away for free! Be one of the first two people to reply, and it's yours.

May the Lord use this resource to help all of us grow in contentment!
